The Incredible Rice Cooker!

Aug. 12, 2022

The electric rice cooker is a modern cooking utensil capable of steam, boil, stew, simmer and stew. It not only cooks food, but also keeps it warm, is clean and hygienic to use, is free from pollution, saves time and effort and is one of the indispensable appliances in modern homes and catering. Follow Vikaf to find out how a rice cooker works and how it functions.

The working principle of an electric rice cooker.

An electric rice cooker uses a heating plate to cook rice in the bottom of an aluminium pan. The heating plate contains an electric hot wire, which is controlled by an automatic switch. When the switch button is pressed, the switch crossbar puts the magnet up against the soft temperature-sensitive magnet. At this point, the heating line is switched on and heating begins. As the rice in the pot boils, the water in the pot gradually decreases. As the water begins to steam dry, the temperature inside the pot continues to rise. When it reaches a temperature, the temperature-sensitive soft magnet is not attracted by the magnet, and the lever of the switch drops due to the spring force and its own gravity, pressing the contact points apart, and the heating line is switched off. At the same time, another insulation circuit is switched on to keep the temperature of the rice at the most appropriate temperature.

How to achieve multi-functional use of the rice cooker?

Realisation of the keep-warm function

When the power is switched on, one end of the current passes through the resistor and the insulation indicator to the heating plate, and the other end passes through the fuse to the heating plate, thus forming a circuit, the insulation indicator lights up and the heating wire heats up slightly to achieve the insulation effect.

Realisation of the cooking function

When the power is switched on and the switch is pressed to achieve conduction, one end of the current passes through the switch to the heating plate and the other end passes through the fuse to the heating plate, thus forming a circuit, at the same time the resistor and the cooking indicator are connected in parallel at both ends and the cooking indicator lights up, as this circuit does not limit the current through the resistor, then the heating wire will generate the rated heat to achieve the purpose of being able to cook the rice (or other ingredients). When the rice is cooked, the temperature of the heating wire exceeds the temperature set by the temperature control switch, it will be disconnected at this time, so that the insulation function is achieved.

The role of the fuse in the circuit

When the fuse passes through too much current causing it to exceed its temperature limit, it will instantly and permanently break to protect other components from damage (e.g. the heating plate). If no fuse is fitted, when the wrong voltage is connected or a short circuit occurs internally, the short circuit will catch fire due to the high mains voltage and current and a fire is likely to occur. This is where the fuse becomes vital to ensure the safety of our lives and property.

The role of the earth wire

Do not underestimate the role of the earth wire, when the home is equipped with a leakage protection device, if the rice cooker shell touches the fire line leakage, when we touch the shell, then with the earth formed a circuit, the leakage protection device will immediately cut off the power to avoid the risk of electric shock.
